Henry and Charlie Smith

Hi, we are Henry and Charlie and we own MountainView Woodcrafting. Charlie is my wife and she is both an excellent Woodworker as well as an excellent Seamstress.

We started making Jewelry and Keepsake boxes as professionals in 2002; it is amazing how much we have learned in that time.

Now, fifteen years later, we have seen the influence of the Internet and we have joined the biggest Marketplace that has ever existed. We are excited to be here.

Family: We have been married for 45 years and have two children, a son and a daughter, both of whom are grown and are doing a wonderful job of making a life for themselves. We have a Grandson by our daughter and he is the light of our life. We have a wonderful Kitty named Felicity who is part of our family, she means a lot to us.

Jewelry Boxes: We started making Jewelry boxes because our shop is in the basement. The rule was that we had to confine ourselves to projects that could be brought up the basement stairs. That meant no entertainment centers, no canoes, etc. Actually, we really liked the idea of making boxes and we just stuck with it. Our smaller Jewelry box , the Intimate, was one of our original boxes. She is still with us. About a year or two after we started, we developed a larger Jewelry Box which we called the Majel, an idea that I had been tossing around for quite a while. The Majel is also still with us. After the Majel, we added Keepsake boxes to our product line.

It is impossible to say how much we have learned since we started; actually, we are still learning.

Our Philosophy: We are not trying to get rich; not by a long shot. But, we do supplement our retirement income with our business. We are very serious about what we do, we pay attention to every little detail. We say “it’s not just one little detail that makes the difference, it’s all the little details”.

Our boxes have to be smooth; they have rounded corners and edges. Our finishing process is extensive, ending with two coats of wax. People at the art shows we attend are always compelled to touch our boxes. They comment on how smooth they feel. And, since they are lined with real Velvet, they feel nice on the inside also.

Our boxes are made to last, our customers often comment that they are “heirlooms” that can be passed down from one generation to another.

Please check out our shop and our boxes, we promise that you won’t be disappointed.
